Chelsea sign SEVENTH star in stunning $415m spending spree: Done Deals

Chelsea has landed their SEVENTH signing of a remarkable January transfer window as fresh owner Todd Boehly splashes the cash six months after taking over the club.

Right-back Malo Gusto has joined from Lyon on a deal widely reported to cost €30m ($A45.90m) plus add-ons. The club announced his contract runs until June 2030.

The 19-year-old will be loaned back to Lyon until the end of the season. His signing delivers the Blues much-needed cover at right back, where Reece James has battled a pair of knee injuries that have forced him to miss a host of matches this season.

The Blues have already signed Myhkailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos and Noni Madueke this month on permanent deals, plus Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid on loan.

It takes their estimated total expenditure on transfer fees to a whopping 238 million pounds or $415m – plus a reported loan fee for Felix of 10 million pounds.

Nevertheless, the Blues sit 10th on the ladder, 10 poinds off the Champions League positions.

ANGE LANDS STAR HE ‘REALLY WANTED’

South Korea striker Oh Hyeon-gyu vowed to repay Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou for his persistence after finally completing his dream move to Europe.

The 21-year-old told reporters on Thursday that he first heard about the Scottish champions’ interest back in September.

But the deal was only finalised earlier this week when Celtic paid Suwon Samsung Bluewings a reported $AUD4.3m.

“The moment I heard about the offer I always dreamed about coming over to Celtic. When Celtic offered I didn’t have to think about anything else,” Oh said.

“As a boy I always dreamed about moving to a European club – it was one of my big aims.” Oh joins Celtic’s collection of Asian talent, with six Japanese players having followed Postecoglou to Scotland from the J-League over the past two years.

The striker said the patience of the former Australia boss to get his preferred target was key to the transfer’s completion.

“It was a pretty long few months of negotiations. It would have been easy for the manager to give up when it doesn’t seem like working out but I’m very grateful that the manager didn’t give me up,” he added.

“I’m very happy to finally be here. As much as the manager wanted me, I want to pay him back by scoring a lot of goals.” Oh could make his debut when Celtic travel to Dundee United on Sunday looking to take another step towards retaining the Scottish Premiership title.

“I want to give a good impression on my debut and a match that no-one can ever forget,” said Oh.

Postecoglou was delighted to have snapped up the youngster.

“He is a young, talented striker with great attributes and someone who is ready to take the next stage in his career,” Postecoglou told the Celtic website.

“I have watched Oh for some time and he is the striker I really wanted as I think he will be a great fit in our squad.

“Really importantly, I know that he had his heart set on joining us too and that his own perseverance has been crucial in making this deal happen.”
