Brighton edged past Stoke to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals as Evan Ferguson’s first-half strike proved the difference at Bet365 Stadium.

The Seagulls went into the game having lost just once in eight in all competitions and looked comfortably the stronger team, despite the narrow scoreline.

Stoke held firm in the opening exchanges, limiting the home side in the final third, until Ferguson broke the deadlock in the 30th minute.

Lewis Dunk played in Kaoru Mitoma down the left wing and the Japan winger’s first-time ball across the box found the 18-year-old running in to slot home.
