Aggie Beever-Jones scored a late winner for Everton against Tottenham Hotspur in the Women’s Super League.
Nicoline Sorensen had given Everton an early lead when she drilled a near-post finish past Rebecca Spencer.
Tottenham equalised midway through the first half when Eveliina Summanen slotted into the bottom corner from Bethany England’s cut-back.
The defeat means Tottenham are just five points clear of bottom club Leicester having played one match more.
They have now lost 11 of their past 12 WSL matches, the exception being the 1-0 home win against Leicester.
In a game of few chances, Everton came close to restoring their lead soon after Tottenham’s equaliser, but Izzy Christiansen’s shot was blocked by a determined Tottenham defence.
Celin Bizet then came close for Spurs when home keeper Courtney Brosnan allowed her shot through her legs, but she recovered and just managed to stop it going over the line.
Both sides appeared to have settled for a draw before Beever-Jones’ intervention, the Everton substitute rolling the ball past Spencer to score only her second WSL goal.
Spurs defender Kerys Harrop broke the WSL appearance record as she played in her 178th game.
