MLS Injury report: Jack Price out, Kevin Molino sidelined again

The 2023 Major League Soccer campaign is in full swing, and with that, unfortunately, come several injuries.

The Eastern Conference has seen several injuries, but this week we’re in the West with the injury report. Sergio Cordova is out for the Whitecaps, while Colorado Rapids suffer without their captain Jack Price for the remainder of the season.

Here’s the injury report after gameweek four…

The bad luck continues for Columbus Crew forward Kevin Molino, who will be sidelined for six to eight weeks after undergoing a meniscectomy. The player has suffered three torn ACLs in his career, and made just one appearance for the team in 2023.

Molino first joined Columbus as a free agent in 2021, and suffered his most recent tear that season. Prior, he saw productive stints with Minnesota United FC (2017-20) and Orlando City SC (2015-16), tallying 34 goals and 29 assists in 129 regular-season games over the course of his MLS career.

Sergio Cordova will be out for six to eight weeks as he recovers from a right hamstring strain. The Vancouver Whitecaps Designated Player sustained the injury in last weekend’s 1-1 draw against the LA Galaxy, ruling him out of international action with Venezuela.

With Cordova out, head coach Vanni Sartini is expected to lean on Brian White as the starting striker, and substitute figures Deiber Caicedo and Cristian Dajome. It’s a huge blow for the team, who have already seen a disappointing start to the 2023 MLS campaign with a 0W-2L-2D record.

Colorado Rapids captain Jack Price will miss the remainder of the 2023 MLS season after rupturing his right Achilles tendon. He is set to undergo surgery later this week.

The player sustained the injury during Colorado’s 2-1 defeat against Minnesota United on Saturday. That brief second-half substitute run-out was just his second appearance of the year – ending his 2023 ledger at 37 minutes played.

Without Price, head coach Robin Fraser will depend on Ralph Priso and Bryan Acosta to balance out the midfield. Though the  MLS Primary Transfer Window remains open through April 24 should Colorado want to pursue additions.
