Heung-Min Son faced with racist abuse, yet again

Last year against Chelsea when Heung-Min Son was racially abused at Stamford Bridge, the season ticket holder was banned indefinitely. Son, yet again had to face racial abuse in Spurs’ recent 1-0 win against Crystal Palace.

While Heung-min Son was walking past the Crystal Palace fans after being substituted in the 89th minute, a Palace fan was caught on the camera making racial remarks which are all over Twitter now.

This racist remark directs and calls for an urgent investigation as there stands no room for racism. Both discrimination and racism have to be put an end for which Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace are investigating alongside the Metropolitan Police.

“We are aware of a video circulating online (as well as reports made directly to us) regarding an individual in the away end at Spurs yesterday, appearing to make racist gestures towards Heung-Min Son,” Palace said in a statement. “Evidence has been shared with the police, and when he is identified, he will face a club ban. We will not tolerate such behaviour in our club.”

Crystal Palace have pledged themselves that the “strongest possible action” will be taken against the abuser; potentially a ban from watching Palace games from the stand. The fan can clearly be seen making inappropriate remarks in the video as Son crosses the corner flag.

Tottenham are not holding back as well and in their pursuit to find justice for their most loved footballer, the club seems to be pushing the Met to a faster justice.

“We are aware of an allegation of racial abuse towards Heung-Min Son during yesterday’s match. Discrimination of any kind is abhorrent and has no place in society, our game and at our Club,” read a club statement.

“We are working with Met Police and Crystal Palace to investigate and identify the individual involved. We will do everything in our powers to ensure that if found guilty, the individual will receive the strongest possible action – as was the case earlier this season when Son suffered similar racial abuse at Chelsea.”
