Australia vs Egypt, Patrick Beach save, Socceroos news, video, highlights

Goalkeeper Patrick Beach was once again the hero for Australia on Saturday morning AEST, producing a stunning late save during the Socceroo’s World Cup Round of 32 clash against Egypt in Arlington.

Scores were tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation time at Dallas Stadium, and the Egyptians had seemingly unearthed a late winner when a precise cross from captain Mohamed Salah found Ramy Rabia, who steered a glancing header towards the net.

But Beach, with lightning reflexes, stuck out his left hand to push the ball over the crossbar for a corner.

It comes after the 22-year-old made eight saves during Australia’s World Cup opener against Turkiye in Vancouver also keeping a clean sheet during the Socceroos’ group-stage contest against Paraguay.

“What a save that is,” former England defender Matt Upson said on BBC One

“Talk about reaction, top class. The first time cross, the run, the header and the fantastic save at the end of it.”

Former England forward Chris Sutton continued on BBC Radio 5 Live: “The ball was absolutely bang on from Mo Salah and Patrick Beach was going to his right hand side and all of a sudden he reacts. I think it is heading in.

“Ramy Rabia must think he has scored. That was sensational, it really was.

“A tremendous piece of goalkeeping.”

According to ESPN, Beach leads all goalkeepers in goals prevented at the World Cup with 2.65.
