Marcus Thuram to move to England

Chelsea have been in contact with Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach regarding a potential move for France international forward Marcus Thuram, as the Blues appear to be ready to give up on a move for Mykhaylo Mudryk. Marcus Thuram arrived in Germany in 2019 for a transfer fee of 12 million euros, and any Chelsea move for the player is likely to cost four times that, as 50 million euros appears to be the player’s price tag.

Son of France legend Lilian Thuram, Marcus has caught the eye in recent months in the Bundesliga and for the French national team. Previously the 25-year-old had played for Sochaux and Guingamp, but a move to a bigger club always remained Thuram’s ambition.

Struggling Chelsea are looking to add new faces to their squad in January, and a move to Thuram would be bankrolled by club owner Todd Boehly, who is ready to spend close to £120 million if necessary. Injuries to Raheem Sterling and Mason Mount this week have not helped the Blues’ cause, and manager Graham Potter already finds himself under pressure after a poor spell of form.

Thuram has 18 months remaining on his deal in Germany, and is said to be desperate to move to England with Chelsea his preferred next destination.
