Week three in MLS brought out some excellent attacking play.
There were blowouts, dazzling displays of dribbling ability, and wonder strikes from a variety of players. In week three, big-name talent was on display from several players. Here are 90Min’s power rankings of MLS forwards…
St. Louis City is on a roll! While players like Eduard Lowen and Joao Klauss may get the headlines, Jared Stroud held his own against a decent Portland Timbers side.
The 26-year-old had a solid game, completing 100% of his dribbles and scoring in the 45th minute. He may not be the most talked-about player on that roster, but Stroud deserves credit for a solid performance.
Christian Benteke’s arrival to MLS was a surprise. A player of his caliber is still more than capable of playing in Europe, but since arriving in DC he’s been one of their most dangerous players.
Though he didn’t score against Orlando City, his hold-up player, and physicality was crucial in DC United’s 1-1 draw. With one goal to his name in the season already, Benteke’s presence up top will only make DC better.
Nashville isn’t the flashiest team, but they’re very smart with their player acquisitions. Since arriving in Nashville on loan from Toronto FC, Jacob Shaffelburg has been lethal on the Yote’s left-hand side.
His speed and knack for goals have seen him score twice already, including in their recent match against the CF Montreal.
Julian Carranza is one of the rising stars in MLS. Since arriving from Inter Miami to the Philadelphia Union, the young Argentine has impressed, scoring two goals in his first three games in 2023.
Though he’s not scored since it’s only a matter of time before the 22-year-old finds the back of the net.
FC Dallas has started off the season well and Jesus Ferreria’s form is a big reason.
Their 3-1 win against the Galaxy showed why he’s so dangerous. The 22-year-old scored a brace over their Western Conference rivals. Even though he didn’t score in Dallas’ recent match vs. the Vancouver Whitecaps, the US international still managed to get three shots on target despite having the least outfield touches of any player.
Since being traded from NYCFC to the Seattle Sounders, Heber has made the most of his situation.
With two goals on the year, the Brazilian will look to etch his name in an already stacked offensive for the Sounders.
Unfortunately, after suffering a left hamstring strain, his goal tally will have to sit at just two for the foreseeable future.
Often overlooked by their fellow California teams, the San Jose Earthquakes have quietly had a solid start to the season.
Jeremy Ebobisse is a major reason why they have six points through three games. His goal against the Colorado Rapids sealed all three points for San Jose.
Joao Klauss has been one of the best signings of any team during the off-season. His two goals and assist have propelled St. Louis to the top of the Western Conference. Against Portland, the Brazilian ended the match with three total shots, and two big chances created.
The United States Men’s international is leading the league in scoring and will be a big reason why Seattle will make the playoffs again this year after missing out in 2022.
Seattle may have lost against FC Cincinnati, but it is certain that Morris will find the back of the net again soon.
Denis Bouanga is the most in-form striker in the league right now.
