Weghorst a surprise target for Manchester United

Man Utd manager Erik Ten Hag wants to bolster his attack during the January transfer window, and compatriot Wout Weghorst has emerged as a potential transfer move for the Old Trafford side. It is understood that the player, who is currently on loan at Turkish club Besiktas, is ready to return to England and parent club Burnley are open to negotiating a deal with United.

Weghorst caught the eye for the Netherlands during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and the 30-year-old also played during Besiktas’ last game against Kasimpasa this weekend. It was noted that the Dutchman appeared to wave good bye to the club’s fans at the end of the game.

Weghorst still has five months remaining on his loan deal at Besiktas, so if Man Utd are to agree a move for the attacker, Besiktas will need to agree to release the player. After that Burnley will then need to negotiate a fee with United for the player, who arrived at the Clarets just last January in a 15 million euro deal from Bundesliga club Wolfsburg. Weghorst failed to impress during that spell in the Premier League.
