Manchester United are considering a shock move for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount at the end of the season.
The England international has entered the final 16 months of his contract and he has yet to extend his stay with the Blues.
He is likely to be sold in the summer and The Guardian report that United have now entered the pursuit of his services.
The Red Devils are aiming to pursue a creative midfielder and Mount is considered as a cheaper alternative this summer.
Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham was initially the top target but United may not afford him due to the £100m + price tag.
The club are expected to spend big on a new striker and they are unlikely to make another significant outlay for a midfielder.
Mount could be available for around £50m this summer. Aside from United, Liverpool are also interested in landing him.
Chelsea will be hoping for a bidding battle between their rivals such that they can increase the player’s valuation further.
