Marcus Rashford has hit out at reports he is set to sign a new Manchester United contract with a club-record £400,000-a-week salary.

The England international is in the final six months of his contract but manager Erik ten Hag has already confirmed that United plan to trigger the one-year extension clause in his deal to avoid losing Rashford for free.

Amid rumours that Paris Saint-Germain could make a move for Rashford, the Daily Star claimed that United are set to offer the 25-year-old a mammoth new contract with the highest wage in the club’s history to convince him to stay.

The reports found their way to Rashford, who was thoroughly unimpressed.

“Can we please stop making up these stories?” he wrote on Twitter. “Mine and the club;s objectives are to hopefully get into the Champions League this season. This isn’t helpful. Thank you.”

Rashford and Ten Hag were excited to work together during the summer and the England international has enjoyed plenty of minutes at club level, starting 13 of his 14 Premier League appearances.

With Cristiano Ronaldo leaving the club during the World Cup break, there are expected to be even more minutes available for Rashford, although United are known to be looking for attacking reinforcements in January.

Among their targets is PSV Eindohven’s Cody Gakpo, with the Dutch side preparing for a sale in the winter window.
