Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed that Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea when his season-long loan concludes this summer.
The Belgian rejoined the Nerazzurri from the Blues on loan last summer. He has had a difficult season with just four goals from 17 appearances.
Lukaku has shown signs of returning to form but Marotta has said that it is unclear whether the club will make a fresh attempt to re-sign him.
Speaking to Sky Italia, he said: “Lukaku to stay also next year? It’s too early to decide, he will return to Chelsea and we will see what’s next.
“Lukaku wants to stay at Inter, for sure — we know Romelu’s intention and so we will see if we can negotiate his return here.”
Inter are facing financial concerns at the moment and they are widely expected to sanction a big-money sale in the summer.
Hence, they are not in a position to spend big and will most certainly try to re-sign Lukaku on loan for the 2023/24 campaign.
Whether Chelsea accept the proposal is a big question mark. The Blues may prefer to offload him on a permanent basis this time.
