The 2022-23 Serie A season on Paramount+ is underway and it runs through May as we expect a heated race for the Scudetto. AC Milan are the reigning champions after their incredible run to the title last season while Inter Milan and Juventus have high hopes of joining the race. Roma, under legendary manager Jose Mourinho, hope that their offseason additions will be enough to get them into the conversation as well. Napoli have started off strong under the impressive play of young Georgian forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The promoted sides are Lecce, Cremonese and Monza, and they all aim to avoid the fate of Cagliari, Genoa and Venezia, who were all relegated last season. You can catch all the action, including select games in Italian, live on Paramount+ all season long.

Here’s what to know about this week’s action:

Storylines

1. Napoli are flying

Luciano Spalletti’s side won 5-1 in a key match in the Scudetto race last Friday against Juventus and are now nine points above AC Milan and are definitely the leading candidates to win the title at the end of the season. Key players Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are back at the best of their form and this is what Napoli needed heading into the second part of the season. This weekend Napoli will play against Salernitana who just replaced their manager after losing 8-2 against Atalanta on Sunday.

2. The match of the weekend as Juventus take on Atalanta

Juventus and Atalanta will face each other un Sunday and this is going to be the most important match of the weekend for multiple reasons. Juventus come from the heavy defeat at Napoli and need a reaction in front of their home fans, while Atalanta need to confirm all the positive feelings after scoring eight against Salernitana. This is also going to be an important opportunity for Gasperini’s team to get closer to the top four and it’s the kind of game that can shape the Champions League’s race of the upcoming months.

3. Inter Milan and AC Milan’s late games

After playing the Italian Supercoppa on Wednesday in Riyadh, AC Milan and Inter Milan will be back to Italy and will play after their rivals. The Nerazzurri will face Empoli on Monday at San Siro, while Pioli’s team will play against Lazio away on Tuesday. The match between Lazio and AC Milan will also likely determine the state of the Champions League’s race and both sides need to win. On the paper it looks like this is going to be a quite promising weekend for Napoli and Inter Milan, but Serie A always give us some unexpected surprises.
