Socceroos vs Argentina, Mat Ryan, Copenhagen teammate Kamil Grabara sledges Aussie, news, reaction, World Cup Qatar 2022

Mat Ryan’s club teammate and goalkeeping rival Kamil Grabara has laid the boot into the Australian gloveman after his costly error against Argentina.

The pair have endured a testy relationship at FC Copenhagen, where Ryan was signed while former Liverpool back-up keeper Grabara was injured. Grabara has since returned to depose Ryan from the number one role, after taking a public swipe at his Australian teammate.

Grabara told Dutch media in October: “I can only repeat what I have already said – I just have to state that there is a reason why we are in ninth place in the Superliga and that the goals have poured in. It speaks for itself.

“I don’t see any competition for the goalkeeper position,” he added, while saying he and Ryan are ‘not friends’.

Ryan’s howler against Argentina gave the Polish gloveman an easy opportunity to attack his club teammate, and Grabara didn’t hold back.

“Must have been politics, for sure,” he tweeted with a smirking emoji – insinuating that Ryan lost his club starting spot due to a lack of skill, rather than club ‘politics’.

Foxsports.com.au asked Ryan about his teammate’s comments after the Argentina match. The Aussie skipper shrugged and laughed before saying: “I’m not surprised with you to be honest but, yeah, his opinion doesn’t really concern me.”

Ryan is widely expected to leave Copenhagen in January in search of a new club.
