The build-up to the United States’ Round of 16 World Cup clash against Belgium in Seattle has been tarnished by backlash to the suspension of Folarin Balogun’s one-match ban.
The American star was shown a red card during last week’s victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina, but FIFA made the bombshell decision to allow him to play against Belgium regardless.

The Royal Belgian Football Association requested for an explanation of Balogun’s suspended red card, but FIFA ruled a request as “inadmissible”.
The winner will face Spain, who defeated Portugal earlier on Tuesday AEST, in the quarter-finals.
The match is scheduled to commence at 10am AEST.
