Argentina international Enzo Fernandez, currently on World Cup duty with Argentina, has been persistently linked with a transfer away from Benfica to Man Utd. The central midfielder caught the eye in yesterday’s 2-0 victory over Mexico, scoring a goal from off of the bench, and now United are ready to bid 50 million euros to sign the Benfica star.
Emerging through River Plate’s youth side, it did not take long for the 21-year-old to be noticed by Europe’s top clubs, and Benfica agreed a 17 million euro move to sign the player in June 2022.
Impressive form in the Portuguese top flight has caught the eye of United manager Erik Ten Hag, who is now working with the club’s board to sanction a transfer deal for Fernandez, said to be worth close to 80 million euros.
Fernandez can play as a defensive midfielder, central midfielder or even an attacking midfielder, primarily though the middle, and that versatility is what has caught the eye of Ten Hag. With the January transfer window fast approaching, it will be interesting to see who Manchester United will add to their squad after Ten Hag’s impressive start at Old Trafford.
